The live event "PLAY" VOL.170 is set to take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Shindaita FEVER.

This time, the event features a two-man live show with "Azuma Mitsuyoshi Trio +1," led by Japan's leading blues guitarist Mitsuyoshi Azuma, and Taifu Club, a three-piece band formed in Kyoto in 2013.

Azuma Mitsuyoshi Trio +1 continues to perform blues, R&B, and calypso, centered on 1930s to 1950s American Black music, infused with their unique Japanese sensibility and humor. Taifu Club, on the other hand, captures everyday scenes and unplaceable emotions through unadorned words and rock 'n' roll.
Though differing in generation and background, these two groups have consistently created music imbued with the scent of human life.
We invite you to a special night where stylish grooves intersect with Japanese rock reminiscent of twilight.

On the day of the event, Shinbopan, a bakery from Tachikawa, will also be featured. You can enjoy a relaxed time with delicious bread between sets.

＜Artist Profiles＞

■ Azuma Mitsuyoshi Trio +1

This unit consists of four members from the rhythm section of the 12-member Swinging Boppers. Since it is difficult for all 12 members to gather frequently throughout the year, they began performing as a small trio at the end of the 20th century. Feeling the limitations of a three-person performance, they expanded to a Trio +1 by adding pianist Hayasaki, and have primarily performed on Saturdays. With Azuma's "pro debut" (retirement) in 2021 and pianist Hayasaki's semi-pro debut (no need to commute 5 days a week) in 2024, they have started performing more often than just Saturdays. Their repertoire mainly features R&B and Calypso from the 1930s to 1950s, and they are also working on Japanese versions of these genres.

Vocals, guitar, bass, and drums—just as you see, they are a three-person group. They are Taifu Club, the setting sun of Japanese rock.
